Shopping My Stash | Balance Me Moisture Rich Face Cream

Sunday, 21 September 2014

My Una Brennan moisturiser ran out recently, but as I had this Balance Me freebie hidden away I thought I'd give it a go instead of immediately rushing out to buy something new.

I've always really liked the Balance Me products I've tried before and this face cream is no exception. It's very thick, and can take a while to sink in, but don't let this put you off; it left my skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and so so soft. The smell may not be for everyone  it's quite herbal, if that makes sense?  but personally I find it comforting. This is definitely a product I'd consider for winter, as it soothes dry skin beautifully.

Balance Me Moisture Rich Face Cream costs £24 for 50ml and is available here.

Lifestyle | Moving Day, and a Life Update

Friday, 19 September 2014

Not really relevant to this post but how cute are these owl paper clips? I had to include them somewhere!

As this post is published I'll be enjoying a fry up, courtesy of the Toby Carvery, before heading off to my new house and setting everything up. My dad, who is always willing to give up his time and is the best taxi driver a girl could ask for, is helping me out, and was kind enough to drive me back to uni. Last year I was incredibly nervous about moving but this year I'm just excited  I can't wait to get back into a proper routine and catch up with my housemates and uni friends.

I'm starting the second year of my degree and I'm also co-editor of my uni's student-run writing anthology, so I'll be much busier than I have been and unfortunately this means blogging might have to take a bit of a backseat, at least until I get settled in and work out a schedule.

Over the summer I've been aiming to post every other day, but during term time I don't know if this is going to be possible, so I'm aiming for three times a week instead. As far as I know, my word counts are going to increase by quite a substantial amount and my number one priority is my degree. I passed my first year with a 1st, and I see no reason why I can't do the same this year and the year after, but, naturally, it means a lot of hard work  even more effort than I put in during the year just gone.

That doesn't mean I won't be paying attention to blogging; on the contrary, I have several ideas up my sleeve, and I feel like I've made some improvements to Toasty over the past few months or so. When I did work experience over the summer, several people were impressed, or at least interested in, the fact that I write a blog, and I know one of my lecturers has a nose occasionally (Hi Barrie!) so I intend to keep standards up!

So that's basically what's going on right now. Give yourself a mini round of applause if you read the entire post, and if you're starting a new term then let me know what you're most excited about in the comments! Any tips for living in a house share would be appreciated too.

Brand Focus | My Charlotte Tilbury Wishlist

Wednesday, 10 September 2014

Charlotte Tilbury is one of those brands that make it practically impossible to choose what you would buy from them, because everything looks so damn good. Nevertheless, I've managed to narrow it down to five products, which will promptly be put on my Christmas list (yes, I went there). If my student loan allows for it then I may treat myself, but I've heard that the winter heating bill is a killer and, you know, I do need to eat. Fingers crossed that we have a mild winter in South Wales  highly unlikely, but a girl can dream!

So what did I pick?

Charlotte Tilbury Wishlist

Make-Up Bag, £15
It's so cute with all the lipstick prints, how could I resist?! I love the quote on the back: 'Give a girl the right make-up & she can conquer the world.'

Luxury Palette in The Rock Chick, £38

You all know by now how in love I am with my Dolce Vita palette, and I'd love to try more eyeshadows from Charlotte Tilbury. The shades in The Rock Chick palette look ideal for creating a smoky eye, and I already know how buttery soft and easy to blend these shadows are. If nothing else, I'm saving up for this.

Rock 'N' Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Bedroom Black, £19

It's near-impossible to find a decent black kohl pencil. Most of them are dark grey rather than black, and I've yet to find one that lasts more than ten minutes on the waterline. Rock 'N' Kohl is waterproof, and I've read several reviews saying that once on it does not budge. As a lazy girl who rarely checks her make up once she's left the house, this sounds perfect.

K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick in Bitch Perfect, £23

The most beautiful everyday nude pink shade. I hate to use the tired old 'my lips but better' cliche but that's exactly what this lipstick makes me think of. As a pale girl, I have to be really careful with nude shades, as the wrong ones just wash me out and then I get those awful 'You look so ill!' comments. A hint of pink tends to warm up the complexion.

Rock 'N' Kohl Eye Cheat, £19

A pencil specifically for the upper and lower waterline. The nude shade is said to make eyes appear brighter and more awake, and heaven knows I need that during early morning lectures.

So that's my Charlotte Tilbury wishlist. What would you like to try from the brand? Have you used any of these products before? Let me know in the comments!

First Impressions: Liz Earle Beauty Icons Collection

Wednesday, 3 September 2014

The first thing on my to-do list after my spending ban finished was to replace my bottle of Cleanse & Polish, which ran out a few weeks ago. When I went on the website I noticed a new set was being sold: the Beauty Icons Collection. It costs £19.75 and includes a 100ml pump bottle of Cleanse & Polish, two muslin cloths, a 50ml bottle of the Skin Boost Tonic, and 50ml of the Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion.

Liz Earle Beauty Icons Collection

Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser: I love it. Cleanse & Polish always leaves my skin clean, soft, and smooth, without any irritation.

Skin Boost Tonic: I love this. It's soothing and gentle, and removes any lingering traces of dirt and make up from the skin. The perfect product post-cleanse.

Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion: I've seen blogger after blogger rave about this and, naturally, this made me curious. You apply it to a cotton pad and wipe gently over your eyes, and you can even leave it for 5-10 minutes if you want. The cooling effect is lovely in the morning and really helps to wake me up, although I don't think I would describe it as an essential; it's more like a fancy extra. I'll be using it before all my early morning lectures next term!

Have you tried any of these? Would you buy the Beauty Icons Collection?
